Port Royal
x14 x6

Upon entering the area, open the large chest behind your starting position to acquire the Naval Map. Save at the nearby save station and travel down the stairs in the southwest corner to reach the Harbor.

After the cutscene, strike the pirates with the Keyblade a few times (or let your HP fall to critical levels) to continue. After another cutscene, you can strike the pirates with your Keyblade and deal damage effectively.

Fighting Pirates

The pirates in this world can only take damage when they are standing in direct moonlight. They are also especially weak to magic, so using spells like Fire, Blizzard, and Thunder will stagger them and cut their HP more quickly. This is also a great opportunity to try out your newly-acquired Wisdom Form, as it enhances your magic abilities!

If you want to further boost your magic power, consider equipping Hidden Dragon to recover MP when you take damage, or equip Monochrome for a boost in magic power and and increase in the potency of your restorative items like Ethers!

Encounter in the Town

After Pete retreats, enter the town through the passage across the bridge in the southwest. Defeat the nearby Heartless to continue. This is a good opportunity to use magic while in Wisdom Form and earn experience for the form (there should be just enough Heartless here to level it up once!). Watch out for the Heartless-symbol targets on the ground; these indicate where the Cannon Gun's projectiles will land. You can use your new Reflect magic to damage nearby enemies whenever one of the projectiles (or any other attack) makes contact with the barrier.

NEW HEARTLESS: Cannon Gun

Destroy the piles of boxes in various places around town to reveal new paths and treasure chests, then proceed through the passage in the north to return to the Harbor. After the cutscene, Talk to Will in the northwest corner of the harbor and choose "I'm ready!".

Aboard the Interceptor

Once you’re on the Interceptor, Jack will join your party; he comes equipped with four Potions that you can move into your own stock if you want to keep them. At this point, you can enter the Ship’s Hold through the open door near the center of the ship and visit Morlock’s Moogle Shop to purchase the Victory Bell and Chain Gear for Donald and Goofy (if you wish). When you are ready to continue, Talk to Jack located at the helm, select The Black Pearl as your target and select “Go.”

NEW HEARTLESS: Tornado Step, Air Pirate

While visiting Morlock's Moogle Shop, this is also a good opportunity to try out some Item Synthesis! With the materials available to you at this point, you may be able to craft a few armor pieces that can help boost your party members' defense.

Before the Interceptor can reach its destination, it will be boarded by undead pirates and Heartless; attack the pirates with magic to cut down their HP quickly and use air combos on the flying Heartless to stagger them. You can also retreat into the Ship’s Hold to avoid the enemies, then exit the hold to continue (you must talk to Jack and select your destination again).

On the Isla de Muerta

When the ship docks near the Isla de Muerta, Jack will leave the party. Save your progress at the nearby save station and move further inland to reach the cave mouth. Proceed to the other end of the area (fighting the Heartless in your path, if you wish) and a cutscene will play.

Escape from Isla de Muerta

INFORMATION:   Defend yourself for one minute while awaiting the signal!

Your goal is to survive for sixty (60) seconds while pirates pour out from the northern cave entrance to attack you. Here are a few tips for survival:

  • The undead pirates are only vulnerable to damage when standing in direct moonlight; keep Sora in the center of the area and bait pirates into the moonlight before attacking.
  • The pirates with crossbows can shoot you from a long distance, but they won't be able to hit you from lower altitude by standing in the southwest corner. You can cast Blizzard magic in front of you as the pirates approach to cut their HP.
  • As the pirates with crossbows aim at you, you can use the Return Fire to deflect their shots back at other pirates. When the pirates with axes approach you, you can use the Backshuffle and High Counter reaction command combo to avoid damage and send them flying (assuming they are in the moonlight).
  • If you have a full Drive gauge, you can summon Chicken Little to assist in staggering pirates and grouping them together. Cast Fire magic to burn all nearby pirates after they're gathered near you.

REWARD:  None

Back aboard the Interceptor

After returning to the Interceptor, you will acquire the Isla de Muerta Map. Save your progress at the save station and ascend the stairs to reach the deck. When you are ready to continue, Talk to Will located at the helm, select Port Royal as your target and select “Go.”

Before the Interceptor can reach Port Royal, it will be boarded by undead pirates and Heartless; attack the pirates with magic to cut down their HP quickly and use air combos on the flying Heartless to stagger them. You can also retreat into the Ship’s Hold to avoid the enemies, then exit the hold to continue (you must talk to Will and select your destination again).

Pirate Ambush on the Enterprise

INFORMATION:   Defeat all of the pirates while protecting the medallion!

Your goal is to survive for sixty (60) seconds while pirates pour out from the northern cave entrance to attack you. Here are a few tips for survival:

  • If Sora is hit by a pirate's attack or cannonfire, he will drop the Medallion (it will appear as small golden orb on the ground). If a pirate walks onto it, that pirate will take it into his possession. You have sixty (60) seconds to defeat the pirate holding the medallion in order to retrieve it; if the timer runs out, it's game over.
  • If you drop the medallion, you can pick it up by walking over it. If a pirate picks it up, focus your attacks on that pirate. When locking-on to the pirates, the one holding the medallion will have a golden coin icon displayed on them.
Cast Fire magic to burn all nearby pirates after they're gathered near you, or cast Reflect just before incoming pirates attacks to damage all nearby enemies.
  • The Black Pearl will periodically fire cannonballs at Sora & co. - there will be a wide blue circular reticle on the deck of the ship where the cannonfire will hit; try to steer clear of this area. You can approach the cannons on the edge of the deck and use the Cannon Bomb reaction command to send cannonfire at the Black Pearl - this will prevent it from firing its own cannons for 20 seconds.

REWARD:  Sora learns Aerial Spiral | Donald learns Draw | Goofy MAX HP +5

After the cutscene, Save at the nearby save station, visit Morlock’s Moogle Shop to purchase items of equipments if you wish. When you are ready to continue, ascend the stairs to reach the deck.

Burning Barrel Bashing

INFORMATION:   Get rid of the burning barrels!

Your goal is to send five (5) burning gunpowder barrels off of the ship using the Launch reaction command while avoiding incoming attacks from Heartless.

  • The Air Pirates and Cannon Guns will continue to respawn on the deck after being defeated, so don't spend too much time fighting them. Instead, focus your efforts on getting to each barrel and using the reaction command to launch them off the deck.
  • If the Heartless manage to strike a nearby barrel enough times, its flame will grow larger and the barrel will begin to flash red (you'll also see this displayed in the list of barrels on the top-left of the screen). If this happens, rush to that barrel as soon as possible to launch it off of the deck before it explodes.
  • The Heartless can interrupt you as you attempt to Launch barrels off the deck, so you might have to push enemies away by attacking them. You can cast Reflect magic just before the bombs drop from Cannon Guns to damage all nearby enemies.
  • Jack is a required party member for this fight, and summons cannot be used. You can use Limits like Donald's Fantasia to clear out enemies, but you won't be able to use the Launch command while the Limit is active.

REWARD:  Sora gains an Item Slot | Donald MAX HP +3 | Goofy learns Second Chance | Jack MAX HP +10

To the Treasure Heap

When the ship has docked at Isla de Muerta, Save your progress at the nearby save station and travel forward into the next area. Continue deeper into the cave, fighting the Heartless and Undead Pirates along the way (and picking up chests if you wish). When you reach Moonlight Nook, place Donald in your party (Jack must remain in your party), then proceed into the next area.

You may find it helpful to unequip Auron's Auto Limit ability - this will prevent mishaps where you intend to use an enemy's Reaction Command and the limit is activated instead. You can also enter the Customize menu and adjust how often Auron uses his abilities that require MP.

Barbossa

HP: 440      DIFFICULTY:

Jack must remain in your party for this fight; if he gets knocked out in combat, it’s game over. Keep Donald as your other party member for his healing support and access to Wisdom Form. Barbossa is be invincible while he attacks from the shadows, so you’ll need to focus on taking out the Illuminator Heartless first. Move your camera around the room and look for its glowing eyes. Once you’ve found it, close in and attack it with air combos until it retreats.

Barbossa can only take damage while he’s in direct moonlight, so try to stay near the center of illuminated areas to keep him vulnerable. If he’s left uninterrupted for about 20 seconds, Barbossa can resummon the Illuminator Heartless, and this time it will jump across the walls in either direction when spotted. Don’t chase it around the perimeter of the room; instead, stay in the center near the Aztec treasure and pan your camera around until you spot its eyes when it stops jumping.

When you stagger Barbossa with three or more magic spells, it will sometimes leave him staggered in place; you’ll hear him say “cursed power…” while he’s in this state. This is a great opportunity to heal up or move in and strike with a combo. Barbossa can still counterattack with his rushing slash, but it has a much shorter range. After a while, he’ll recover and continue with his usual attacks. The best opportunities to stagger him with magic are when he raises his pistol to fire, when be backsteps away or runs forward towards you, and when he performs a jump.

Lock on and cast Blizzard on Barbossa during one of his openings to freeze him in place, then close in and deal a full combo. Try to position Sora so that your attacks will push Barbossa where he remains in the moonlight. The moment he thaws out, cast Blizzard again and repeat this loop until you are nearly out of MP. At that point, activate Wisdom Form to restore your MP, then continue to alternate between using Blizzard and your basic attack, which will now be magic bullets while you’re in Wisdom Form. Be sure to cast Blizzard the moment Barbossa recovers from being frozen; the magic stagger will not stack when you cast it early. If you start to run low on MP, use Barbossa’s stagger time to use an Ether instead of attacking. Another option when your MP is almost depleted is to use Jack’s Bluff limit when Barbossa approaches.

Barbossa's rushing slash attack can be blocked with the Guard ability, and you can stagger him with Counterguard right after that and follow up with a full combo. Using Reflect magic as he slashes forward is a great way to deal damage. Barbossa will fire his pistol at close range and from far away, but you can usually expect it after he completes his rushing slash attack. This gun shot can’t be deflected with Guard, but you can avoid damage with a well-timed cast of Reflect. If he attempts to fire point blank, you can interrupt his shot with a melee attack or magic from the ground; but if you can’t reach him, your best chance at avoiding damage is to jump out of the line of fire.

If his target is at mid-range, Barbossa likes to send out three bombs that detonate after a few seconds. You can strike these bombs to move them around, but I recommend just steering clear of them until after they explode. All of Barbossa’s attacks will cause knockback; use Aerial Recovery to regain control quickly, or use Retaliating Slash to recover and close in to attack Barbossa. Try to reach the ground as quickly as possible so that you can cast magic again.

When about 30% of this HP bar remains, Barbossa will start to use a new attack where he approaches Jack and strikes him with the hilt of his sword. You’ll know when he starts this attack whenever he says “Once again, Jack…” If Barbossa makes contact, Jack will stagger in place for a short time. At this point, approach Jack quickly and use the Twin Counter reaction command to save him, then follow up with the Sonic Dive command to send Barbossa flying. If you can’t reach Jack in time, Barbossa will knock him back and deal damage to him.

One more attack is added to Barbossa’s repertoire when 20% of his second HP bar remains. In this phase, he will strike with a nine-hit counterattack whenever he recovers from being staggered. If one of his hits makes contact with you, the only way to escape the remaining strikes is to use the Land reaction command. There are actually two opportunities to use this command; the first opportunity is during a short pause after his first three sword strikes, and the second opportunity is right after the next four quick jabs. After using Land, wait until Barbossa raises his pistol to use the Reverse Blade command; this will stagger him and give you an opportunity to follow up with a combo or magic.

REWARD:  Sora learns Aerial Finish & Drive Gauge +1 | Donald MAX HP +5 | Goofy learns Teamwork & Auto Limit | Jack MAX HP +15

After defeating Barbossa, Sora will open a new pathway with the Keyblade and receive the Follow the Wind keychain. After the cutscene, you'll be taken to the world map. Before landing in a world, take note of its BATTLE LV in the top-right corner of the world menu. It's recommended to visit worlds in ascending order of battle level. Clearing the Ancient Highway gummi route will allow you to Land in Agrabah.
