Throughout Sora's journey, you will learn various magic spells through storyline events and side-quests. There are three levels for each spell that can be acquired. You can use magic spells to gain an advantage during battle or to interact with the environment in certain situations.

The Fire spell allows Sora or Donald to send a fireball towards a single enemy; this fireball will seek the nearest enemy or whichever target is currently being locked on to. When the spell is upgraded, the fireball increases in size, speed, and damage. You can also use this spell to light furnaces, candles, and campfires in select areas.
Fire magic can be very useful for staggering enemies that are far away from you. You can also add quick casts of fire magic into your attack combo.
Sora will acquire Fire magic and its upgrades as you progress through the main story.

The Blizzard spell allows Sora or Donald to send a burst of ice in the direction they are facing; it covers a wider area, so it's effective against several enemies grouped together. When upgraded, the spell increases in size, range, and damage. You can also use this spell to put out most fires you encounter, and you can use it to freeze the bubbles in Hollow Bastion.
Blizzard magic is a great tool for damaging and staggering fast enemies that are grouped together (ex. Air Soldiers, Red Nocturne). Each of the seven ice crystals can hit a separate enemy. Perform a jump before casting in order to get the maximum spread for the ice crystals!
Sora will acquire Blizzard magic and its upgrades as you progress through the main story and complete optional challenges.

The Thunder spell allows Sora or Donald to call down lightning from above, dealing damage to enemies that are under the casting area; it's effective against most airborne enemies. When upgraded, the spell increases in size, range, and damage. You can also use this spell to activate mechanical parts in certain situations.
Thunder magic is a great crowd control option; it hits and staggers multiple enemies within, and it can deal decent damage. This spell becomes much more powerful as Sora increases his maximum MP through accessories and leveling up. Cast this from a jump to recover more quickly!

The Cure spell allows Sora or Donald to restore HP for a selected party member. It's wise to cast this spell on Sora when his HP falls near critical levels. Equip the Leaf Bracer ability to avoid interruption of healing when struck by enemies. When the spell is upgraded, the amount of HP restored is increased.
If you need to heal up quickly with enemies around you, try performing a jump before casting Cure magic! Casting from the ground takes more time and leaves you more open to enemy attacks; jumping helps you avoid some of these attacks, and you can recover more quickly after casting this way!

The Gravity spell allows Sora or Donald to produce a gravity field that removes a percentage of HP from enemies caught in the field; it's most effective against enemies with large amounts of HP (Large Body, Fat Bandit, Battleship, Defender, etc). When the spell is upgraded, the gravity field becomes larger, and more HP is sapped from enemies. This spell can also be used to lower certain platforms.
VERY important detail: Gravity magic deals damage based on a percentage of an enemy's CURRENT HP. If you cast Stop magic and two casts of Gravity while the Stop magic is active, it will defeat most non-boss enemies instantly! This is because enemy HP is also frozen while Stop magic is active.

The Stop spell allows Sora or Donald to freeze enemies in place for a short period of time, allowing the party to deal damage to enemies or heal themselves without the risk of retaliation. When the spell is upgraded, the range and number of stopped enemies increases; the stopped time duration does not increase.
Some bosses are susceptible to Stop magic! You can summon Bambi to help restore your MP as you repeatedly alternate between casting Stop and dealing melee attacks while the enemy is stopped.

The Aero spell allows Sora or Donald to conjure a barrier of wind around a selected party member; this barrier reduces all incoming damage by 50%. When the spell is upgraded once, the barier gains the ability to damage and stagger enemies. When the spell is upgraded a second time, the barrier gains the ability to deflect back incoming enemy projectiles.
DO NOT underestimate the power of Aero magic! All levels of Aero will reduce all incoming damage by 50%. Aerora magic can stagger enemies before they can strike you, and Aeroga magic can keep you safe from projectile attacks. If a boss is giving you trouble, cast Aero and keep it active!
